First Impressions-Nokia 6760s

The Nokia 6760s that I was given to review by my brother did not  manage to impress me the moment I had my hands on it. It seemed like a cross between a Samsung Corby Mate and the Nokia N900. The only thing that makes it different from the Corby Mate is that this one is larger and has a 3.2 megapixel camera. One thing that caught my interest was the keyboard. It is by far the best I have used on any QWERTY phone. Keys are large and for fingers like mine they are perfect. Another plus would be the time it takes to load all the content on a restart is impressive.

The phone I received is a Black one and comes with a 2gb microSD memory card,along with earphones, USB data cable and a charger.  It has a dedicated Internet Key, S60 menu key, and a messaging key. The screen size is a normal 2.4″ screen and the sliding is pretty smooth. The soft keys and the navigation key reminds me of a S40 phone where the switch off key is the end call one. The back cover has a smooth rubbery finish which makes sure the phone doesnt slip off your hand easily. It has a single speaker which isn’t that loud but is manageable. Also a 3.2 megapixel camera adds on to the pros of the phone.

Going to the inside specs, the main screen resembles any S60 phone with shortcuts. The menu is pretty clean and it seems like Nokia understood that people need only certain items for quick access and the rest can be put under sub folders. The messaging is easy and the phone is another entrant into the phone for social networking segment. It has Facebook and MySpace applications which make it easy to access them. The Auto-rotate feature can get irritating sometimes else it is very responsive. Nokia Messaging is a new feature that has been added for your E-mail and also Ovi chat is a good application for your IM’s. It su[pports Gtalk,yahoo too. There is another new application that I found which was the message reader. It reads out your messages to you and can be fun to use it sometimes.

Quick office is a part of the phone’s in built applications along with an application to Zip files and a PDF reader too. You have the option of sharing your stuff online with the share online application. GPS is pretty fast and gives you pretty exact locations. The Ovi store links you to all the free applications one can have for their phone. It has Games,Social Networking applications, Entertainment apps too. Real Player plays all your video files and also has the option to play streaming videos.

The Camera is good and the pictures clicked are good and much better than the pictures I captured on an E71. The video quality isn’t bad either. It stores its videos in standard mp4 format and a 320×240 resolution. When zoomed onto the max the picture quality does not decrease and I am really happy with that. Using the phone in sunlight is not tough as you can see the screen clearly. The charge lasted for a good 2 days with continuous usage of messaging and internet and it takes approximately 2 hours to charge completely.
